Taupo 3 day event
What a super event and the weather held off for us.
We started the week with the young event horses, with 4 in the class.
This class was won by the lovely 4 year old gelding Lexington(wb Limonit) ridden by Daniel Blundell, Danni Lodder and Waitango Hotmail(wb escudo) Nzph Toblerone and Helen Bruce on baord(wb ?) then the first of the thoroughbreds Balmoral Kahlua(t/b Quorum)
I think from memory we placed 4th on Cate Wilsons T/b that she bred,
6th on Joe and Carol Kann’s t/b gelding Balmoral Ayres Rock, 6th on our own and Diana Smith’s/Sue Clarke’s Contendro 1 Gelding Balmoral Henton and 10th on our own Balmoral Oakey who is an Australian w/b.
Oakey was our highest placed on the flat/Henton was our highest placed jumping horse/Ayres Rock was our highest placed in the gallop with Kahlua being all around consistent in all of the above. The conformation section being the 4th part of the class, we had 4 very different types of horses but couldnt manage getting above the botton 1/4 of the field in this particular section…….
I think the real shock was Nick Brooks and his lovely Versace gelding scoring a very low 17 out of 35 on the flat……….
Donna and Joe and Carol Kann’s and our own Balmoral Sensation won the CCI 2* just .2 from Ben Bateman and Fibre Fresh Facade followed by Graham Smith’s and our own Balmoral Tangalooma. 4th in this class was dressage leader Chelsea Hawthorne and her lovely gelding Pioneer Zuess, who was leading coming into the showjumping, unfortunately having 2 fences down. Im sure they will be up there again very soon and next time with a super showjump round.
In the non Championship CCI 1* class Donna rode the Parton family gelding Bmw Advocate for a win from start to finish ahead of Sarah Dalziell on Benrose Super Star.
We had an early withdrawl of Just Chocolate on Friday before the dressage, he had a cough that we could get rid of in time and we decided to leave him for another day.
This 3 star class was won by Emily Cammick riding the lovely Grey Dambala ahead of Anabell Wigley who was 2nd and 3rd on Enzo and Frog rock with 4th going to S.E Big.
Congratulations to Gillian Meecham on Hitchiker for her well deserved win the CCI 1* Championchip class.
Our kids were doing there first 3 day event, with Tess and Drums and Roses scoring a personal best on the flat and making time in the CCI 1* leaving her in 9th place out of a huge field of 50 odd starters…..the showjump though it was a little different with Tess possibly getting a little bit of the nerves and having a couple of fences down.
Alex on Alpha Romeo was having a super ride round the cross country untill the 2nd to last fence where Reggie lost his footing on the turn and pecked on landing after the last corner with Alex parting company. Luckily for his Air vest he was no worst for wear. Courtney and her 2 horses in the 1* didnt have the best of runs upto Taupo being a little off prior, each had a silly stop in the x country but both jumped well on Sunday.
Gussy on her 2 new mounts Black and Gold were a little startled at the flags in the Dressage and a course error on Montgomery. Montgomery had a good run in the cross country.
Ahuge thankyou to Alex, Tess, Courtney Tyler and Stef Gray for their help on the weekend getting the horses ready and looking fabulous all week and fit for the jog on Sunday morning.
This week we have more Aussie clients coming out and looking for horses, im sure lots more entertainment will be had.
Thanks to Chanel Campbell for designing our banner for Balmoral Eventers, looks awsome.
It was great to have our Sponsors Spurs of Counties at Taupo having a small selection of their stock on show. It was a great eye opener for them to see the eventing and young horse class and see both Donna and my self compete on our lovely horses.
Thanks to Marg Anderson and Cafe Dinky for feeding the kids the whole week.
Thanks to Tom and Gaye Mclunie/Gussy and her mum/Claire and Tessa for celebrating with us when we got home home from Taupo last night it was amzing to come home to a cooked meal great red wine a warm campervan and lots of good laughs.
Actually we did manage to run out of Diesel on the way home last night from Taupo……….saved by Richard Otto who was on stand by to bleed the mighty Mack and Phillipa Howells who drove me down to the closest gas station for 5 litres of diesel…….it did manage to get us to the gas station.
